Residency Year Scholarship at California State University

With a residency year scholarship, teacher candidates can concentrate on building their knowledge and skills with the need for outside work and less credit. The education assistance supports high-quality clinical preparation. It helps holders gain the skills, knowledge, and confidence to succeed on your first day as a teacher.

Who May Eligible

  • The free study award is available to interested teachers who are motivated to make a difference in their schools and communities.
  • The scholarship recognizes candidates in these groups who demonstrate a financial need and have the merit of qualifying, including excellent academic performance, significant personal accomplishments, and community services.
  • Applicants must have an interest in teaching English learners, earning a bilingual credential, teaching in urban or high-need schools, or supporting students with special needs.
  • Students should be currently enrolled in a full-time equivalent teacher credentialing program and must remain a full-time equivalent CSU student during the academic year
  • Candidates must have good academic standing.
  • Holders must be in a Multiple Subject, Single Subject, or Education Specialist program at CSU that is participating in teaching residency programs.

How to Apply

For apply, candidates need to submit completed applications to the financial aid office on your campus through the given link: https://www2.calstate.edu/attend/paying-for-college/financial-aid

Completed packets will include the following:

  • A completed Applicant Information form.
  • One letter of reference from any individual within an organization the candidate has worked with.
  • A brief Personal Statement from the applicant answering the following
  • Why are you interested in becoming a teacher? What motivates you to become a teacher?
  • Why are you interested in teaching English learners, earning a bilingual credential, teaching in urban or high-needs schools, and/or supporting students with special needs?
  • Describe community service, extracurricular activities, volunteer experience, and/or previous academic honors or awards.
  • Do you have financial needs that a scholarship will help you address? Please describe.

Benefit: The program will award $10,000 for aspiring teachers who are motivated to make a difference in their schools and communities.

Application Deadline: For the 2019–20 academic years, the application deadline is August 30, 2019.
