Religious Liberty Student Writing Competition

The University of Missouri School of law is pleased to announce the Religious Liberty Student Writing Competition. The competition is open to all students who have graduated from law school but who are not yet practicing law due to clerkships or other similar pursuits.

The aim of the competition is to promote legal and academic studies in the field of religious liberty by law students and students pursuing related graduate studies.

Who May Eligible:

Students who have graduated from law school but who are not yet practicing law due to clerkships or other similar pursuits are also invited to submit papers.

How to Apply & Competitions Rules:

To participate, the applicants must submit papers submission in pdf and/or docx formats by e-mail to papers@jrclsdc.org.

Rules:

  • Scholarly paper relating to the topic of domestic or international religious liberty, broadly or narrowly construed, consisting of 9,000-13,000 words, including footnotes.
  • Eligible papers must be typed, thoroughly cited and presented in a format suitable for publication, with no additional editing required.
  • Papers must conform to Bluebook requirements and may include footnotes.
  • Papers prepared for academic coursework permitted.
  • The cover email should note the word count of the paper being submitted. A current resume should also be included.

Benefits:

Top entries will receive the following awards:

  • 1st place = $4,000 cash award
  • 2nd place = $3,000 cash award
  • 3rd place = $2,000 cash award
  • Honorable mention = four $1,000 cash awards

Application Deadline:

The application deadline is July 1, 2018.
