Nellie Stone Johnson Scholarships for Minnesota Students

Students United is accepting applications for the Nellie Stone Johnson Scholarship for students enrolled in a Minnesota State College or University. To be eligible, students must be a union member or the child grandchild or spouse of a union member. They must be a person of colour, must meet academic standards of the institution of current attendance, must have a 2.0 GPA for undergraduate applicants or a 3.0 GPA for graduate applicants, and must be a full-time student with 12 credits or six credits as a graduate student. Scholarships are useful for a variety of costs typically connected with higher education. These expenses include anything from lab fees to books, transportation, tuition, room and board and much more. These scholarships are usually one-time, or non-renewable payment is given directly to the university. Although in some cases, they can be renewable throughout the four-year courses. Scholarships give a fair and equal opportunity for many people to earn an education. They act as an external financial source for students who have trouble paying for the degree they need in order to enter the workforce and become a contributing member of society.

Students United was established in 1967 and are an independent, non-profit organization funded and operated by students. Students United serves over sixty-five thousand students attending Minnesota’s seven state universities like Bemidji, Mankato, Metropolitan (St. Paul/Minneapolis), Moorhead, St. Cloud, Southwest (Marshall) and Winona. This organization has been a strong voice for state university students on the system, campus, state and federal levels for over fifty years. Students United is recognized by the Minnesota State Colleges and University Board of Trustees as the sole representative of state university students in Minnesota and work on a variety of issues at several levels.
