NBNA belief that “doing the right thing isn’t a catchphrase, but it’s in our DNA.” Through this scholarship, the organization hopes to know the applicant’s “decision to do the right thing.” Each and every one of us faces a time in our life where we have to make a choice between doing the right thing and opting for an easier option. While the latter is easier, the former takes a very strong footing and a person whose ideals fall very much on the lines of what the organization’s goal is based on. This scholarship is a helping hand from NBNA for those who are passionate about nursing and helping others in need.
The National Black Nurses Association was established in 1971 by Dr Lauranne Sams, former Dean and Professor of Nursing at Tuskegee University School of Nursing in Tuskegee, Alabama. NBNA is dedicated to educational excellence and offers year-round continuing education services for nurses and allied health professionals. The organization works with private and public agencies/organizations that share a common goal of improving the health of all communities, particularly African Americans and other minorities. The mission of the NBNA provides a forum for African American nurses to take collective action to serve and fight for and enact policies to ensure that people of colour have access to the highest standard of healthcare. The scholarship is a brainchild of this mission.
