NASSM Student Research Competition 2019

The North American Society for Sports Management is now accepting applications for the Student Research Competition 2019. The competition is open to the students who are enrolled in a college or university at the deadline of submission.

The winner of the student competition will have an opportunity to present this paper at the President’s Luncheon during the NASSM Annual Conference (May 28 – June 1, 2019, in New Orleans, Louisiana).

Who May Eligible:

To be eligible for this competition, students must be enrolled in a college or university.

How to Apply & Competition Rules:

To participate in this competition papers must be submitted electronically to the Student Research Competition coordinator, Meg Hancock at meg.hancock@louisville.edu.

Rules:

  • Applicants must not be employed in a full-time academic position at the submission deadline.
  • Students may not submit more than one paper for this competition, and if accepted for presentation, this paper will count toward the two-presentation maximum for the NASSM Annual Conference.
  • Papers should reflect a student’s analytical and/or theoretical research interest and be appropriate for presentation at the NASSM Annual Conference
  • This is a solo-author competition. No co-authored submissions will be reviewed.
  • The page limit for all submitted manuscripts is 35 double-spaced pages, including references, tables, figures, and Papers that are more than 35 pages will not be eligible for the competition.
  • Papers must be submitted in English and use a minimum of 12-point font and one-inch margins.
  • Students must also adhere to the Submission Guidelines & Policies section published in the Journal of Sports
  • Papers should not be submitted if its author does not meet ALL of these requirements.
  • All papers will be subject to textual similarity review by plagiarism detection software.
  • The submissions should be sent as a file attachment to an email and should be in MS-Word (*.doc)
  • Do not send a paper in pdf or zip file format.
  • Each submission must also include an Authorship Declaration form signed by both the student’s academic advisor and the student.
  • If the paper constitutes part of a broader research project undertaken by the student and/or advisor, a note as to how the submitted paper represents an original, independent contribution by the student (i.e., single author) must be provided in the Authorship Declaration.
  • The research paper cannot be submitted for any other presentation at the conference, nor should it have been previously undergone scholarly peer review, or have been presented/accepted for publication in other scholarly outlets.

Benefits:

  • Students will receive constructive comments and suggestions from the reviewers on how the paper may be strengthened for possible presentation and publication.
  • The student winner will be recognized by NASSM with the following awards:
    • A 20-minute presentation of the research at the 2019 NASSM Conference President’s Luncheon.
    • A waiver of the conference registration fee.
    • A $500 (US) award.
    • Complimentary one-year membership in NASSM.
    • Plaque in recognition of the award.
  • The top three finalists (other than the award winner) will each receive a $250 (US) award in addition to a waiver of the conference registration fee.
  • These three finalists may be asked to present their paper as a 20-minute oral presentation at the 2018 NASSM Conference.

Application Deadline:

Papers must be received electronically no later than 11:59 pm EST on Monday, January 14, 2019.
