Media Studies Graduate Working Groups Grant

Applicants who are seeking the opportunity to continue their studies further are welcomed to apply for Media Studies Graduate funds provided by Cornell University. The grant is available for graduate students who can demonstrate that their research interests productively converge.

The funds are created to support all small groups of interdisciplinary students in media studies. It will also provide drafts of dissertation chapters, and discuss research and writing skills for approaching the group’s common multidisciplinary focus.

Who May Be Eligible?

Applications will be received on the basis of the following guidelines:

  • All the participants must demonstrate their research interests productively converge field.
  • Applicants must be a graduate student.
  • All aspirants must be legal residents of the United States at the time of application.
  • Each writing group should contain a minimum of four members

How to Apply

Applications for Media Studies Graduate Working Groups must be submitted by one member and must be submitted by email to Emily L. Parsons elp25@cornell.edu. Groups should be prepared to convene either virtually or respecting appropriate social distancing practices.

Supporting Documents

  • Students must submit the statement of no more than 750 words describing a rationale for linking the work of Aspirants from different disciplines or disciplinary perspectives. The report must show how each participant’s perspective would contribute to elaborating and enriching a shared context for writing.
  • A one-paragraph description of the dissertation project will be given from each applicant.
  • Must submit a CV for each member of the group.
  • A schedule of meetings and activities for the coming year. The essential requirement is a series of conferences organized around the circulation, presentation, and discussion of 1 chapter in progress, or seminar paper, by each member (a prospectus counts as a chapter), or secondary reading of importance and common interest, related to the study of media.

Benefits

The grants of $250 per person will be received by the groups of 4-5 applicants who can show that their research interests productively converge that comprises media studies at Cornell, and especially support projects that involve the study of race, ethnicity, and media.

Applications must be submitted by July 15, 2020, for the program.
