The foundation focuses on helping economically disadvantaged young people in Africa to find chances to move themselves, their families, and their communities out of misery to a better life.
The Mastercard Foundation was created in 2006 by Mastercard International and works independently under its board of directors’ governance. Since its establishment, the foundation has risen from a small “start-up” with only three employees to one of the largest foundations in the world. The foundation is committed to approximately US$4.4 billion; they have partnered with visionary organizations to improvise financial inclusion and access to youth learning in Africa. Their goal is to provide secure employment to the young people and women in Africa by 2030. Using youth employment as a key measure of socio-economic progress, they are wholeheartedly involved in helping millions of people to find a pathway out of poverty.

Who May Be Eligible
The eligibility criteria for the scholarship vary according to an institution to the fellow is applying, some common eligibility candidate needs to meet are:
- The applicant must be having an outstanding academic performance
- The fellow should need financial support
- The candidate should be enrolled in community service or extracurricular activity
- The candidate should be no more than 29years old for the undergraduate (bachelor’s) degree when they apply.
- The candidate applying for the graduate (master’s) degree must be 35 years old or under when they apply.
How to Apply
The student must submit the complete application; the candidate must submit all the required documents as per the institution requirements they are applying to. The submission must be made via an online process as guided on the website before the deadline. The submission must be made without making any errors or mistakes in the application.
