Maine Mass Timber Design Competition

Applications are open for the Maine Mass Timber Design Competition. The Competition is intended to generate design ideas and test implementation of an emerging technology that holds specific promise for the state economy. Professionals and students who are currently working or studying in the USA are eligible to apply.

The goal of this year’s competition is to study and develop design concepts for a new hut on an established backcountry site, as well as to explore the implementation of mass timber construction technologies, particularly Cross Laminated Timber construction, in a remote location.

This (EDA-funded) design competition is being sponsored through a collaborative effort of the following organizations: AIA ME – Maine Mass Timber Commercialization Center, the University of Maine, College of Engineering and Architecture, Passivhaus Maine, and Maine Huts & Trails.

Who May Eligible:

To eligible, the candidates must be following all the eligibility criteria:

  • Open to professionals and students currently working or studying in the USA
  • Open to teams of up to four members
  • Interdisciplinary teams are encouraged
