Students who have lost a parent due to substance abuse are provided with an opportunity to pay for their college by the Lisa Michelle Memorial Fund. This initiative is taken by Danielle E. Olson to help out students in their tough times.
The program is inviting candidates who are high school senior or college or university students. The applicants also need to be the United States citizens and enrolled within U.S. to be applicable for the program.
Danielle E. Olson founded the Lisa Michelle Memorial Fund in 2015. It was created to honor the life of her mother, Lisa Michelle Miller, who passed away on September 20, 2008. It provides scholarships to students who have lost a parent to drug, alcohol, or prescription drug abuse.

Who May Eligible?
To eligible for the scholarship, the students must be reviewing the eligibility guidelines:
- Must have a parent or guardian whose cause of death must be due to substance abuse.
- Must be high School Senior or college or university student
- All college or universities within the United States are eligible
- Must reside in the United States
- Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0
How to Apply
Eligible candidates are asked to fill out their information through a pdf application form and submit it back via email at info.theLMMFund-at-gmail.com for getting consideration.
Supporting Documents
- Applicants must show proof of part-time or full-time enrollment in a college or university. Proof of enrollment would include:
- Proof of registration from the registrar’s office
- Class schedule that has your name and student ID number
- Applicants must show proof of a 3.0 minimum grade point average by submitting a recent transcript
- Must have had a parent or guardian who passed away due to substance abuse. We must have written verification that this was the cause of death (i.e. death certificate).
- Must submit an essay of approximately 800-1500 words that describes the following:
- How your parent or guardian passed away and how you got through that difficult time in your life
- What your biggest challenges were being a student with a parent struggling from addiction
- What your education means to you and your family
- Why you feel you should be awarded this scholarship
- How this scholarship will make a difference in your life
Benefits
A $1,000 scholarship will be provided by the Lisa Michelle Memorial Fund to a student that has lost a parent to substance abuse. The scholar is advised to use the fund for any studies purpose.
Application Deadline
The complete application packet should be returned to the committee by 30th June 2020.
