LAW – Mississippi Law Enforcement Officers & Firemen Scholarship

The Mississippi Law Enforcement Officers and Fireman Scholarship Program is offering financial assistance to dependent children and spouses of any Mississippi law enforcement officer; Full-time firefighter or volunteer firefighter who have suffered severe injuries or wounds or who have become permanently disabled as a result of wounds which occurred during appointed duties of his or her office. This assistance is organized by the Mississippi Office of Student Financial Aid.

The scholarship is initiated to help and support the struggling students whose parents and devoted their lives to the betterment of nation ad society. It ensures that the students should complete their education, and lack of finances should not stop them from achieving excellence in their respective majors. The program is designed to provide substantial financial support to the dependent child and spouse of any Mississippi law enforcement officer.

Mississippi Office of Student Financial Aid is not just for students to apply, students, student representatives, high school counselors, headmasters, superintendents, and institutional financial aid administrators can also view student accounts make updates, and do more. The firm aims to help the students as well as spouses whose parents or partners have been affected while working as an officer in the Mississippi Law Enforcement firm.

Who May Be Eligible?

Check the below-given eligibility requirements which are mandatory for both child and the spouse before starting to apply for the grant.

  • Students or spouse should be enrolled as full time at the under the graduate level at any one state-supported college or university in Mississippi
  • Candidate should be certified as a dependent child below the age of 23 or souse of any Mississippi aw enforcement officer, fulltime who suffered fatal injury or wounds which occurred in the performance of the official and appointed duties of his or her office or who became permanent and disabled as a result of injuries or wounds occurred in the performance of the official duties of his or her office

How to Apply

Applicants who stand on the above-given criteria are welcome to apply for the scholarship through an online application. The online application must be completed every academic year for which the applicant seeks aid. New applicants need to submit the required supporting documents to be considered for the grant.

Supporting Documents

  • Documents for Child or Souse

– Certificate of live birth or proof of adoption of a child

– Marriage license of a spouse

  • Documents of Permanent and total disability

– A letter from the officer’s or firefighters former supervisor or employer stating whether the officer or firefighter is disabled as a result of injuries or wounds that occurred in the performance of during his duty

– Verification from public employees Retirement System

– A statement fro the offices or firefighters physician stating whether the officer or firefighter is disabled and the reason for that disability

– Verification from social security administration

  • Documents of Death

– A letter from the officers o firefighters former supervisor or employer stating whether he suffered fatal injuries in the performance of the official duties of his office

– A death certificate

Benefits

The annual award covers the cost of tuition, including required fees, and the average cost of campus housing at any state-supported college or university within the state of Mississippi. Funding can not exceed eight-semester or bachelor’s degree completion whichever comes first.

Application Deadline

Applications for the program are open from October 1 to September 15.
