Who is Eligible?
- Candidates must have completed 100 hours of regularly scheduled VAVS volunteer service during the calendar year prior to September 1.
- Applicants must be a student in the 10th grade or above.
- Candidates should not have reached their 19th birthday.
- Medical Center Directors may nominate one VA student volunteer per medical center.
How to Apply?
- VA staff members acting as supervisors of student volunteers or members of the local VAVS Committee may recommend candidates.
- Recommendations should be discussed with the Chief, Center for Development & Civic Engagement, before submission to the Medical Center Director.
- The Medical Center Director submits the nomination form to the President of the Fund by December 31 via email to Parkescholarship@amvets.org.
- The nomination form should include information on the candidate’s age, years of volunteering, number of volunteer hours, areas of service, and affiliated/supporting organizations, if any.
- Two forms are available: Regular Parke Scholarship Form and Summer Parke Scholarship Form.
Benefits
- Scholarship funds can be used for tuitions and fees, books and supplies, room and board, or other educational needs purchased through the school of the student’s choice.
- Detailed guidance on scholarship utilization is provided to all winners by the Treasurer of the Fund.
- The National Winner receives a plaque and a letter of commitment, usually presented at the Annual Meeting of the VAVS National Advisory Committee.
Application Deadline
Nominations must be submitted by 31 December 2023 . Nominations received after this date will not be considered.
