Headlands Center for the Art Graduation Fellowship program was started to provide meaningful support to the recent, promising studio at MFA graduates in partnership with esteemed Bay Area academic institutions.  This graduation fellowship also gives graduate students a chance to complete their degree with an expert’s guidance. It aims to encourage the artists in the students and shapes their future.

Headlands Center for the Art mission is to provide a center for art students and an unparalleled environment for the creative process and development of new work and ideas. Headlands Center for the Art offers a wide range of programs, reflection, dialogue, and exchange to build understanding and appreciation for the role of art in the community. It has given many artists a platform and required support to take their careers higher. The Artforms deserves to be embraced just like other fields and the company is successful in doing the same.

Who May Be Eligible?

Check the below-given eligibility norms before applying for the grant, here are the details:

  • Applicants nominated will only be considered for the scholarship.
  • Nominations from the MFA eight co-sponsoring institutions: Mills College, California College of the Arts, The San Francisco Art Institute, San Jose State University, UC Berkeley, San Francisco State University, Stanford University, and UC Davis.

How to Apply

Nominated applications are reviewed by the jury of knowledge and esteemed artist and arts professionals. The jury evaluates the applications submitted and selects finalists. Applications and other documents should be submitted to Headlands through SlideRoom.

These finalists have to be present for the in-person interview and show their work to the jury in 20 minutes. After the interview, the final award is selected.

Supporting Documents

  • Applicants should submit their nomination letters from their respective institutions or college with the application.
  • Consult your advisor or chairperson of your institution or college to know the nomination process and other documents needed for the fellowship application.

Benefits

Some of the benefits of the gradation fellowship are:

  • Facilities Access to the basic woodshop, communal kitchen access, gathering space access, and artist library with computers, scanners, and printer is accessible to the winner.
  • Winners will get to participate in the monthly ‘Show and Tell’ nights.
  • Fellows will participate in the Headlands Graduate Fellow exhibition.
  • Winners will get a 100 to 250 sq.ft. Studio to work on their projects.
  • The fellow will get the opportunity to engage with the Headlands Artist community.
  • Applicants can participate in the three seasonal Open Houses.
  • Winners can host one meeting with the group from the Fellow’s graduating institution.
  • Winners will be part of the Headlands Alumni Network and also get discounts on Headlands Public Events.

Application Deadline

The applications are open from July 1, 2020, to June 23, 2021. Nominated students from each institution or college will be instructed in the spring semester of 2020.
