HAPO is a committee that provides each year scholarships worth $50,000 to students who plan to pursue a higher degree of education. They provide educational assistance to both entering freshman and current college students continuing their education, a full-time college student working towards an associate, or those participating in an apprenticeship program. Participants must be a member in good standing with the HAPO community credit union and be enrolled with a 3.0 or greater cumulative high school GPA.
HAPO scholarship committee is made up of four volunteer HAPO members and four employees. Applicants need to qualify four areas such as academic performance, financial need, employment/athletics/activities, and community involvement. Each makes up 25% of the scoring matrix. It will help students by directly making scholarships payment upon the recipient’s name validation of the latest high school transcript. Payment will be made on a semester or quarterly basis based on the institution’s academic system. This year, HAPO will offer awards as fellow:
- Ten scholarships of $2,000
- Three scholarships of $5,000
- One scholarship of $10,000
- And $5,000 in scholarships for Y.E.S. program members (Details coming soon)
HAPO stands for Hanford Atomic Products Operations and was formed by a group of non-exempt workers at the Hanford nuclear site in 1953 to provide a place to save and borrow money. Today HAPO continues to prosper and provide financial services to over 170,000 members. Who is Eligible?
To be eligible for a HAPO educational scholarship, applicants must:
- Be a member of HAPO Community Credit Union and in good standing
- Be a full-time high school senior or entering freshman year of college
- Be entering college/university as a full-time student
- Be entering a trade school or apprenticeship program
- Have/had a high-school grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher
- Have a high school diploma or GED

How to Apply?
The participants who are interested must complete the application and submit it to the official grant portal also complete HAPO’s academy financial education program. The candidate should compose a cover letter addressing financial, educational, and career goals stating their financial need and community involvement. One must provide three recommended letters from employers, teachers, or other high school officials. In addition, submit the most recent copy of the unofficial high school or college transcript and, lastly, submit the up-to-date resume.
