The Long Trail is a hiking trail that runs the whole length of Vermont. It is the oldest long-distance route in the United States, built by the Green Mountain Club between 1910 and 1930. The Long Trail genuinely is a trail for all abilities. Every year, hundreds of through-hikers set out to finish the path in a single trip, a feat that has been done in less than five days but normally takes several weeks.
Section-hikers tackle the path in short bursts, frequently finishing the Long Trail over several years. To help conserve and maintain the Long Trail System and other Green Mountain Club-managed trails, GMC has launched a contest in which you may win a prize and have your photo will appear in GMC’s 2022 Long Trail calendar, Long Trail Newsletter, and other GMC publications! Your photos should be shot on the Long Trail and its offshoot paths, the Vermont Appalachian Trail, or the trails of the Northeast Kingdom. There will be three categories i.e, Trail Features (Shelters, Trails, Signs, etc.), People (Hikers, Trail Crews, etc.), and Landscapes & Views. The grand prize is a $100 gift card to GMC’s online store as well as a Long Trail Calendar for 2022. First place in each category receives a $50 gift card to GMC’s online store as well as a 2022 Long Trail Calendar. GMC will choose up to ten best photographs and allow our readers to vote on their favorite. The winning photograph will be featured on the cover of the Long Trail News.
Founded in 1910, The Green Mountain Club is a membership-based non-profit organization committed to maintaining and conserving Vermont’s Long Trail. The Long Path is America’s oldest long-distance hiking trail, stretching from the Massachusetts state line to the Canada–United States border along the Green Mountains’ main crest. The Green Mountain Club’s purpose is to make Vermont’s mountains more visible in people’s lives by conserving and protecting the Long Trail System and encouraging stewardship of Vermont’s hiking trails and mountains via education.
