2022 Grassy Waters Preserve Photography Contest

The City of West Palm Beach (WPB) and Grassy Waters Conservancy (GWC) has organized a Photography Contest for 2022. The Contest showcases the natural environment and diversity in/of Grassy Waters Preserve (GWP) by amateur photographers. The photographers entering into this Contest should reflect the subject and scene as it actually appeared. The contest is divided between the adult category and one youth category. Images that they will be entering into this contest can be taken in 2022 or any time in the past, with any photogenic device such as a traditional or professional camera, smartphone, iPad, etc.

The contest is based on categories of images that are categorized as Landscape that includes plants, scenic, water, and weather, Wildlife that includes mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish, and insects; Black and White include black and white images, Closeup/Macro that includes Landscape, Wildlife, or black and white images. Judging will be done by a photographer and the GWC and Preserve staff. A professional photographer will select the Grand Prize image such as 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place images in each category and additional Honorable Mention images, and the Preserve staff will select the Nature’s Center’s Choice for its annual poster, and many more.

The Grassy Waters Conservancy was founded in the year 2014 and non-profit organization to support the Preserve. Its mission is to support, promote, and protect Grassy Waters Preserve for environmental education and research and nature-based experiences while ensuring its ecological integrity and in concert with its role as a regional water supply.

  • Professional photographer affirmed that each photo was in/of the Preserve and taken by the photographer

How to Apply?

Participants who are eligible for this contest should register their entries through their official portal, each adult photographer may submit unlimited entries, the fee for each image entry is $10 and is a tax-deductible donation to GWC, whereas youth participants may submit up to 3 images (there is no fee for youth photographers), all images must be in JPEG format. Benefits

Students will get selected for prizes based on categories of images that are categorized as Landscape that includes plants, scenic, water, and weather, Wildlife that includes mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish, and insects, Black and White includes black and white images, Closeup/Macro that includes landscape, wildlife, or black and white images. Judging will be done by a photographer, and the GWC and Preserve staff. A professional photographer will select the Grand Prize image such as 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place images in each category and additional Honorable Mention images, and the Preserve staff will select the Nature’s Center’s Choice for its annual poster, one people’s choice winner will be selected by voting on Adult entries only. Moreover, the winning and honorable mention images will be presented in an exhibition at the Preserve, and images may be used by GWC in a Preserve calendar sold for fundraising. 

Application Deadline

All the applicants should submit their entries which is relevant to the theme before the deadline of February 28, 2022. Entries received after this date will be considered ineligible.
