The SAR is arranging the Georges. & Stella M. Knight Essay contest for U.S citizens and residents. The high school students must be attending home schools; public, parochial or private high schools are encouraged to apply for the contest.
The committee introduced the grant to ensure that no deserving students should face difficulty to pay or their studies. The various awards are organized in order to provide an adequate amount to the recipients.
The National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution was founded in 1889 and has headquartered in Louisville, Kentucky. It is a non-profit, non-partisan organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history.
Who May Eligible?
The students are required to follow the eligibility criteria to enter the contest:
- Must be US Citizen and Legal Resident
- Must be attending home schools, public, parochial, or private high schools in that same grade range.
- Must be high school students (9th through 12th grades) interested in the American Revolution
How to Apply
The students are asked to download the application form and submit it with the required documents according to their location. The email address of the specific person can be found on the same page of the scholarship.
Supporting Documents
- Must submit an 800- to 1,200-word essay based on an event, person, philosophy or ideal associated with the American Revolution, Declaration of Independence, or the framing of the United States Constitution
- Must write a biography of one page that should include academic awards and achievements, school activities, community activities and plans for college
Benefits
The Georges & Stella M. Knight Essay Contest consists of the below awards for the students:
- First Prize of $5,000 and a medal and recognition certificate; up to $500 toward travel expenses and one-night hotel stay for the winner and a chaperone at the annual SAR Congress
- Second Prize of $2,500 and recognition certificate
- Third Prize of $1,000 and recognition certificate
