Griffith University is hosting the GBC Competition managed by QUT Graduate School of Business. The contest is open to all students who are currently enrolled in an eligible program of studies such as MBA, Masters Degrees or other relevant post-graduate degree programs in business or technical disciplines. It is to ‘develop novel and sustainable solutions through application of smart technologies and new business models to improve safety and well-being of the public in urban environments’.
The challenge for the 2018 Global Business Challenge provides a learning experience for the students that will encourage healthy competition, professionalism, and interaction with our future business leaders, both amongst themselves and with the business community. The university team prizes comprise two types of Prize: GBC Competition Prizes (totaling $125,000), and Industry Prizes.

Who May Eligible:
Participating students within a team must meet the enrolment criteria being either:
- Currently enrolled in an eligible program of study or
- Have been enrolled in an eligible program of study during 2017
- An eligible program is any business or technical discipline based postgraduate program of study (such as MBA, Masters Degrees or other relevant post-graduate degree programs in business or technical disciplines).
- Teams competing in previous GBC competitions may compete again, however, solutions must not have been the basis of any previous submission in which any team member has completed.
How to Apply & Competitions Rules:
The GBC (Global Business Challenge) is being conducted as a partnership between QUT, The University of Queensland and Griffith University along with the support of government and industry.

Rules:
All submissions should be:
- For a valid registration, you must provide the following:
- Team name (limit of 12 characters long).
Please ensure your team name doesn’t refer to your Institution, or this will not be a valid submission - Coach and team member details
- Team name (limit of 12 characters long).
- Refuse registration from any proposed team up to and including the Round 1 registration closing date
- The competition is to be run over two rounds. Round 1 is a virtual round comprising a virtual pitch (3-minute Team Pitch) and the submission of a 5 page Executive Summary of the proposed “Concept Solution”. Round 2 (Finals) comprises an intensive weeklong competition round held in Brisbane, Queensland.
- The finals process involves:
- A 48-hour lock-in phase where teams need to develop a business case for a hypothetical application of their proposed solution. This hypothetical may be determined by the awarding prize giver/s from our industry and government partners based on specific business objectives of the Partner.
- A CEO pitch (20 Minutes Plus 20 minutes Q&A defense)
Benefits:
Team prizes comprise two types of Prize: GBC Competition Prizes (totaling $125,000), and Industry Prizes. GBC Competition Prizes for 2018 are:
- Winner: $AUD25,000 plus $AUD75,000 Project Prize;
- 2nd Place: $AUD15,000
- 3rd Place: $AUD10,000
- In addition to the cash prizes, all non-Australian university finalists will be eligible for a travel subsidy of up to $AUD 12,500 plus having accommodation provided at no cost.
- Industry partners could also become a first partner to a commercialization. Industry prizes are specifically targeted to support finalist teams, or their collaborator, in their commercialization effort.

Completed applications must be registrations will close on 31 May 2018 at 23:59 (UTC + 10). Round 1 Entries are due by 15 June 2018 at 23:59 (UTC + 10).
