Supporting deserving students with financial assistance has always been the motive of Gallaudet University. Gallaudet University is welcoming incoming deaf and hard of hearing freshmen and new transfer students with multiple Merit-based scholarships, endowed scholarships, and general scholarships to get substantial financial assistance. The requirements and benefits of each scholarship differ.
The aim of designing these scholarships is to grow the career of the students with all the needed support. These programs help specially-abled students to do better in their careers and achieve all their dreams. The University understands that it is quite challenging for the specially-abled students and their families to manage their conditions along with the financial requirements of their academics and to help them with it, University has initiated these programs.
By an act of U.S. Congress, Gallaudet was granted university status in October 1986. The university undergraduate students can choose from more than 40 majors leading to a bachelor of science or art degrees. A small number of hearing undergraduate students up to five percent of an entering class are also admitted to the University each year. Graduate programs at the university are open to the deaf, hard of hearing, and hearing students and offer them different certificate courses.

Who May Be Eligible?
The eligibility requirements for each scholarship are different as follows:
- For Merit-based scholarships
- Open to all undergraduate deaf and hard of hearing students whose academic achievements are exemplary.
- It is open only for newly admitted students.
- For Endowed Scholarships
- Most of these scholarships are limited to U.S citizens or U.S. permanent residents who have an I-151, I-551, or I-551C.
- Applicant should demonstrate financial need
How to Apply
Students needed to complete the IFAA or Institutional Financial Aid Application for Endowed scholarships to be considered. All the newly admitted students are automatically considered for these scholarships by the Admission office. Candidates should make sure they provide all the necessary data in their application so as to be considered for the scholarships.

Benefits
Benefits for each scholarship type differ as given below:
- For Merit-Based Scholarships
These scholarships range in dollar value and are awarded for up to four years of study for first-time freshmen and three years of study for transfer students.
- For Endowed Scholarships
These are need-based scholarships and provide all the necessary financial guidance to the students
