Introduction and Background
In an effort to foster diversity and inclusion within the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), Frontier Technology Inc. (FTI) is proud to announce the Lavon Jordan Diversity and Inclusion Scholarships. Valued at $2,500 each, these scholarships aim to support graduating high school seniors entering accredited four-year academic institutions in the United States for the 2024-2025 academic year. The scholarship specifically targets individuals from historically underrepresented populations, encouraging them to pursue majors in STEM or related fields aligned with FTI’s mission and the AFCEA Educational Foundation.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the Lavon Jordan Diversity and Inclusion Scholarships, applicants must:
- Be a U.S. citizen residing within the United States.
- Belong to historically underrepresented populations, such as minorities, women, individuals identifying as LGBTQ+, and those with disabilities.
- Be currently enrolled in high school and planning to pursue full-time education at an accredited four-year academic institution in the United States for the 2024-2025 academic year.
- Maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Intend to major in a STEM or related field, as outlined in the specified qualifying STEM majors.

Application Process
To apply for the Lavon Jordan Diversity and Inclusion Scholarships, interested candidates must submit the following documents by the deadline of May 1, 2024:
- Completed Application: Include a 500-word essay introducing yourself. Discuss the experiences that have shaped you, elaborate on your understanding of diversity and inclusion, explain your motivation for pursuing a STEM degree, and outline how this scholarship will contribute to your success in that journey.
- Current Transcript: Submit a transcript with completed courses and grades to date via email to edfoundation@afcea.org.
- Letter of Recommendation: Provide at least one letter of recommendation from a career counselor or STEM teacher. Letters should be submitted in PDF form to edfoundation@afcea.org.
- Letter of Acceptance: Include a letter of acceptance to an accredited four-year academic institution.
If electronic submission is not possible, applicants can mail the official documents to the AFCEA Educational Foundation at the address provided.
