Take your creative writing skills to the next level this year by participating in the Friends of the Littleton Creative Writing Contest. This is an annual writing contest that is organized by Friends of the Littleton with the purpose of giving students a chance to enhance their creative writing talent. The organization is very happy to organize its 55th creative writing contest for which all talented young learners who are a student of 1st through 12th grade are invited to apply. If you either live in or attend a school in the Littleton Public School District, then you are welcome to apply. So get ready to take the first meaningful step in your writing career that might prove a cornerstone of your journey.
Applications for this program will be accepted through Midnight, Saturday, March 26, 2022. To send your entry, you will have to fill out an online application form with complete information and submit it online. Whether you write poetry or have the talent to create fiction and nonfiction stories, you can still secure a place since this program is open for four kinds of writings: Poetry, Fiction, Nonfiction, and Collaborative. For these four categories, the organization would like to receive only one entry for each. Your work will be judged based on originality, quality of expression, and skill in handling specific forms of writing. Winners will get a certificate, gift card, and their work will be in the annual publication. The first prize winners will also receive the chance to get their name featured on permanent display in the Children’s Area, Bemis Library. Honorable submission will also be chosen among the entries and the selected candidates will get a certificate and their work will be in the CWC publication.
The Friends of the Littleton Library and Museum is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that supports Bemis Public Library and the Littleton Museum financially and with volunteers. The Friends organize and fund events to raise community awareness of these important community assets. The Friends provide opportunities for new and existing members to serve our community, make new friends, and guarantee that the Library and Museum remain crucial links to our history and future.

Who is Eligible?
Any student grades 1st-12th who attends a school or lives within the Littleton Public Schools District may enter the contest.

How to Apply?
The entry can be sent in the following ways. Chose the one you are comfortable with:-
- Online— attach to the virtual entry form available through the FriendsLittleton.org
- By email — email a completed entry form and your submission to: FriendsCreativeWritingContest@gmail.com.
- By mail— mail completed entry form and submission to Creative Writing Contest, c/o Bemis Public Library, 6014 S Datura St., Littleton, CO, 80120. Mailed entries must be postmarked no later than March 26, 2022
- In-person — hand in at the Children’s Desk of the Bemis Public Library by end of business day Saturday, March 26
Benefits
The number of submissions in each grade and area determines the award winners; authors will get a certificate and a gift card, and their work will be featured in the yearly edition. The names of the first-place winners are displayed at the Bemis Library’s Children’s Area on a permanent basis. Honorable mentions may be chosen by the judges; authors will receive a certificate and their work will be published in the CWC. Additionally, winners will be given the opportunity to read from their work at an event (limited spaces available).
