The Districtwide Parents Organization has announced to provide a scholarship for those students who want to make their future in teaching field. Students attending senior high schools in the Iowa City Community School District and who are soon to graduate and have planning to pursue a college education to teach from kindergarten to 12th are eligible to apply for the program. Students need to write an essay on why they wish to make their career in teaching, including other reasons. This will provide them an opportunity to seek education related to their field.
The students who will get selected based on their essay where they will mention their desire to build their career in the teaching field will be awarded up to $1000. The number of awardees may vary. The amount will be used for their education and invested in related expenses such as tuition fees, books, other materials, etc. This scholarship will motivate and encourage students to pursue education in the Teaching field and provide related resources in the form of this scholarship.
The Lowa Community School Districtwide Parents Organization (DPO) scholarship was established in 1954 in honor of Kate Wickham. It was provided by the donations received by parent-teacher organizations, individuals, and area groups in honor of named individuals who have contributed to their school. The mission of this organization is to ensure all students will become responsible, independent learners capable of making informed decisions in a democratic society as well as in the dynamic global community; this is accomplished by challenging each student with a rigorous and creative curriculum taught by a diverse, professional, caring staff and enriched through the resources and the efforts of families and the entire community.

How to Apply?
The eligible applicants who want to apply for this scholarship program should write an essay on why they want to teach, including what area of education they wish to pursue (i.e., grade level or specialty) such as Mathematics, Science, Geography, etc. and why they believe they would be an effective teacher in this area. They must describe all the points in 300-500 words. Also, they must attach their list of activities and awards and an unofficial school transcript. With this, the applicant must attach a cover letter including their and their parent’s Name, Phone number, Email Address, and other required details. The students applying for this scholarship will be selected based on their application and essay. They will mention why they want to build their career in Teaching and will be awarded amounts up to $1000; the number of the award varies for this program. The dollar amount and number of scholarships awarded depend on the no. of honorees and the quality of the application. The amount given will be used for their educational purpose, i.e., in managing their education-related expenses such as tuition fees, books, and other related required expenses. This will lower their burden of how they will be able to manage their education fees as this scholarship could be an excellent opportunity for them if they are planning to pursue their education in the Teaching Field.
Application Deadline
The applicants interested in this program should not be late for the last minute and submit their entries no later than March 18, 2022. The entries or applications sent after this date will be considered ineligible to appear for this program.
