Students, who are pursuing a technical degree in one of the 21 STEM disciplines, and also want to work with DOD, can apply for this SMART Scholarship funded by the Department of Defense.
The SMART Scholarship programme provides STEM students with the tools needed to pursue higher education and begin a career with the DOD. The purpose of this scholarship is to enhance DOD civilian workforce with innovative scientists, researchers and engineers.
The United States Department of Defense is a chief branch department of the federal government charged with correlate and supervising all agencies and functions of the government directly related to national security and the United States Armed Forces.
Who May Eligible
To be eligible, the applicants must match all the following criteria:
- Contestants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0
- Students must accept post-graduate employment at the DoD to be observed for this award.
- Contestants must be at least 18 years of age
- Candidates must be residents of the United States, Canada, New Zealand, or the United Kingdom.

Benefits
The benefits of the program comprise the following:
- Students will get full tuition and education-related educational
- Applicants will receive the stipend paid at a rate of $25,000 – $38,000 a year depending on degree level
- A health insurance allowance of up to $1,200 per academic year for winners
- A miscellaneous benefit of up to $1,000 per academic year for successful students
- Experienced staff at one of the Sponsoring Facilities for applicable candidates
- Students will get employment placement at a DoD facility upon degree completion.
