Curry Award for Girls and Young Women is specially designed for young ladies who have gone through immense struggles and faced multiple challenges to stay in school. This fund was set up by Eleanor Williams Curry, an active civic leader in the Peninsula. The following grants are granted to young ladies who are self-roused, need monetary help, and endeavor to accomplish despite tremendous obstacles. Young ladies who have exited school for reasons out of their control or have gone through immense struggles to stay in school are urged to apply. The Curry Award for Girls and Young Women grants each chosen recipient an award worth $1,000 each. An aggregate of 10 grants will be granted.

Regarding eligibility, any young lady aged 18 to 26 with a combined grade point average of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale shows monetary need. The current inhabitant of San Mateo County is eligible. The preference will be given to residents of East Palo Alto, East Menlo Park, Redwood City, and San Mateo. Current graduating secondary school senior, graduate, or G.E.D. Certificate holders are eligible.  U.S. resident or qualified non-resident (qualified non-residents incorporate United States legitimate inhabitants and A.B. 540 understudies) are also qualified to apply.

Who is Eligible?

The eligibility criteria for the following scholarship are as follows:

  • A young woman aged 18 to 26
  • Maximum cumulative grade point average of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale
  • Demonstrated financial hardship
  • A current resident of San Mateo County, preference is given to residents of East Palo Alto, East Menlo Park, Redwood City, and San Mateo
  • Current graduating high school senior, graduate, or G.E.D. certificate holder: preference given to students who attend(ed) East Palo Alto Academy, East Side College Prep, Menlo Atherton, Sequoia, Carlmont, and San Mateo high schools  
  • Planning to enroll or currently enrolled in a two- or four-year college or university as a full-time student
  • United States citizen or eligible non-citizen (eligible non-citizens include United States legal residents and A.B. 540 students)

The candidates first have to register themselves by logging in and accessing the application, and the form must be completed and attached with all the concerned documents and submitted.
