CTBUH International Student Tall Building Design Competition

The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) is pleased to announce its 7th International Student Tall Building Design Competition. The competition is open to all international students who are registered at the University level or recently graduated students. The goal of the competition is to shed new light on the meaning and value of tall buildings in modern society.

The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) is the world’s leading resource for professionals focused on the inception, design, construction, and operation of tall buildings and future cities. Founded in 1969 and headquartered at Chicago’s historic Monroe Building, the CTBUH is a not-for-profit organization.

Who May Eligible:

To eligible, the candidates must meet all the following eligibility criteria:

  • The competition is open to all students who are registered at a University level. For recently graduated students: you must have been a registered student during the Fall 2017 term, i.e., August–December 2017 or later.
  • All university students are invited to participate in the design competition. Multidisciplinary teams are strongly encouraged.
  • Participation in this competition is anonymous. You will be issued a registration number which will serve as the only means of identification during the entire judging process.
  • Students cannot participate in more than one team.
  • Teams can be made up of one to five individuals.
  • If a team chooses to work under the guidance of a faculty advisor, they must provide his/her name when registering. While students cannot participate on more than one team, a faculty member is eligible to advise multiple teams.

How to Apply & Competitions Rules:

To apply, participants must register by completing the form and upload their project submissions through the given link:  http://competition.ctbuh.org/registrations/create

Project submissions that are limited to the following two files (both files are required):

  • One A1 board
  • One DOC file written description (A4 one-page)

Rules:

  • Entries to the CTBUH competition must be original works by the students and can not have been submitted to any previous design competition. Students may work under the guidance of a faculty adviser if they so choose.
  • The official language of the competition is English.
  • All team members must submit proof of student status when they register. A scanned copy of a student ID or other form of verification for each member of the team must be uploaded to the registration site in order to successfully complete the registration.
  • After your registration and student status has been approved, the CTBUH will issue you a unique registration number which will be necessary for the final submission.
  • Only one single project can be submitted by any one individual/team.
  • Only one form is required for teams with multiple members.

Benefits:

Five “Finalists” will be selected to present their schemes at the CTBUH 2018 Conference.

  • First Place: US$6,000: US$3,000 cash + stipend (up to US$3,000 value) to attend CTBUH 2018 Conference
  • Second Place: US$5,000: US$2,000 cash + stipend (up to US$3,000 value) to attend CTBUH 2018 Conference
  • Third Place: US$4,000: US$1,000 cash + stipend (up to US$3,000 value) to attend CTBUH 2018 Conference
  • Fourth Place: US$3,000: Stipend to attend CTBUH 2018 Conference (up to US$3,000 value)
  • Fifth Place: US$3,000: Stipend to attend CTBUH 2018 Conference (up to US$3,000 value)
  • Honorable Mentions: A select number of entries will be recognized as Honorable Mentions and awarded with a certificate separate to the Conference.
  • Exhibition: A poster exhibition of the five “Finalists” and a selected number of “Semi-finalist” entries will be exhibited during the CTBUH 2018 Conference.
  • A stipend will be provided to send one representative from each of the five “Finalist” teams to the CTBUH 2018 Conference to present their project to the jury in order to determine the 1st through 5th place awards.
  • The stipend includes complimentary Conference registration (value US$1,000) + travel/accommodation costs (up to US$2,000).
