CSUS Capital Fellows Programs

Applications are open for the Capital Fellows Programs organized by the California State University, Sacramento. These fellowships are open to the applicants who have a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution by September 1st of the fellowship year.

The Center administers four fellowship programs, known collectively as the Capital Fellows Programs. These nationally recognized public policy fellowships offer unique experiences in policy-making and development in each branch of government.

Who May Eligible:

To eligible, the candidates must be following all the eligibility criteria:

  • Have a bachelor’s degree by September 1st of the fellowship year and either a cumulative undergraduate GPA of 2.5 or higher or a GPA of 2.5 or higher in the last 60 (semester) or 90 (quarter) units. 
  • 20 years of age or older by Sept. 1 of the fellowship year
  • Non-U.S. citizens must provide proof of appropriate immigration status.
  • The Capital Fellows Programs do not meet the requirements for F-1 or J-1 visas, nor any work permits requiring participation in the E-verify system.
  • Assembly Fellowship Program
    • Fellows are prohibited from outside academic studies during the fellowship year (i.e. graduate work outside the fellowship seminar, law school, etc.).
  • Executive Fellowship Program:
    • Applicants must be prepared for full-time employment, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m.
    • The depth of the Executive Branch creates opportunities to utilize individuals with a wide range of backgrounds and experiences, including advanced degrees as well as, degrees in science, technology, business and others  (e.g. JD, Ph.D., MPA/MPP, MBA). 
  • Judicial Fellowship Program:
    • Applicants must be prepared for full-time employment, Monday through Friday, 8:00a.m.-5: 00 p.m.
    • note: Fellows are prohibited from outside academic studies during the fellowship year (i.e. graduate work outside the fellowship seminar, law school, etc.).
  • California Senate Fellows Program
    • Fellows are prohibited from outside academic studies during the fellowship year (i.e. graduate work outside the fellowship seminar, law school, etc.).

Rules:

  • The entire application must be completed and submitted online.
  • You must obtain your degree by September 1, 2019. All incoming fellows must provide proof of graduation from a university or four-year college prior to the start of the fellowship.
  • The Capital Fellows Programs consists of four individual programs: Jesse M. Unruh Assembly Fellowship Program, Executive Fellowship Program, Judicial Fellowship Program, and California Senate Fellows program.
  • You may apply to as many programs as you like.

  • $2,698 monthly stipend

  • Graduate units from Sacramento State in Government or Public Policy
  • Upon successful completion of the Fellowship: Capital Fellows Graduate Certificate in Applied Policy and Government.
