Consuelo WGosnell Memorial Graduate Scholarships

The Consuelo W. Gosnell Memorial Scholarship is granted to graduate degree competitors involved and contributed somehow to social work and the community and who have exhibited a guarantee to work with, or who have an extraordinary affinity with, American Indian/Alaska Native and Hispanic/Latino population. Competitors who have exhibited a guarantee to work with public or intentional not-for-profit organizations or with local grassroots gatherings in the United States are additionally qualified for the following scholarship. Furthermore, understudies should have the potential for finishing an MSW program and have a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 or above. Understudies who are enrolled in an accredited (MSW) program for over one year may reapply to the Foundation for part or the entirety of a subsequent year.

Consuelo W. Gosnell was excellent with regard to civil and basic human rights and worked steadily to further develop conditions for fundamentally underserved American Indians and Latinos in the Southwest. She rehearsed for a long time in government organizations, including the US Branch of Health, Education, and Welfare and the Bureau of Indian Affairs. The following scholarship is started in the memory of her and to honor the students who have the same vision as her. The Consuelo W. Gosnell Memorial Scholarship is granted given the annual yearly earnings to the funds and commitments. Up to 10 grants of up to $4,000 each will be granted.

The NASW Foundation is a 501(c)(3) association made in 2001 to help NASW’s instructive, research, and altruistic drives through a wide scope of different projects and ventures that serve the social work call, the practitioner, and people in general. The Foundation directs this variety of projects to satisfy its central mission of upgrading the prosperity of people, families, and networks through the headway of social work strategy and practice.

Who is Eligible?

To apply, students must be a member of NASW and have applied to or have been accepted into an accredited MSW program (payment of the award will be contingent on the full admission of the candidate into the program).  In addition, students must have the potential for completing an MSW program and have a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 or above. Students enrolled in a master of social work (MSW) program for more than one year may reapply to the Foundation for part or all of a second year.

How to Apply?

To apply for NASW membership, visit the NASW website (Online Join) or download and complete NASW’s “Membership Application” found at “Online Join.” New members will receive an email confirmation of membership, which will include a member ID and password.  Applicants awaiting acceptance into a CSWE-accredited program must include, with the membership form, their application to the MSW program with a letter from the college/university verifying the application has been received

Supporting Documents

Following are the documents that need to be attached with your application form:

  • Biographical essay (two typed, double-spaced pages). The essay must address career goals, interests, and work, volunteer, and school/field experience relevant to the guidelines of the award.
  • Statement of merit and financial need for the award. 
  • Two letters of support from professional references (you will be asked to provide the names and email addresses of two professional references).  Letters can be written by a candidate’s professors; individuals or leaders of groups with whom the candidate has worked in a helping capacity; an employer/supervisor, and so on.  Character references or references from clients or family members will not be accepted. If the applicant is applying for renewed funding from the NASW Foundation, one of the two references must be obtained from the applicant’s academic advisor. 
  • Official copy of a transcript from the most recent academic work (undergraduate or graduate). Transcripts may be opened to make photocopies. 
  • Signed release of information.


The scholarship is awarded based on the projected annual earnings to the contribution and Fund. A panel reviews applicants and selects the most deserving award recipients who are capable of using the award wisely and appropriately. This year, 2022-2023, up to 10 scholarships of up to $4,000 each will be awarded to the selected recipients.
