The CITGO Petroleum Corporation has announced a scholarship program named CITGO Innovation High School Scholarship for the selected schools’ students studying in high school with a minimum 3.5 GPA out of 4.0 and who have planned to enroll at an accredited college or university to continue their education with STEM. The primary goal of students must be in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.
The applicants will get selected based on their academic excellence and record, determined leadership and participation in community and school activities, their work experience, their statement of educational, career, and objective goals, and the statement of financial need and/or unusual personal or family circumstances (if applicable) and an online recommendation. This organization will award $2000, awards to 25 applicants. The award will help students to pursue their careers in the STEM field and hence will be provided this award to seek their higher education with less concern of financial requirements.
The CITGO petroleum was established in 1910, and it has partnered with Scholarship America to provide different scholarships for students seeking higher education. Their purpose is to provide scholarships, education-related assistance, and other education support programs to students, which will lead them to achieve their goals.

Who is Eligible?
Applicant must:
- Be current seniors from the following high schools:
- Alief Early College high school, Alief ISD (Texas)
- Foy F. Moody High school, Corpus Christi ISD (Texas)
- Lemont High school, Lemont High school District 210 (Illinois)
- Sulphur High school, Calcasieu Parrish School Board (Louisiana)
- West Oso High School, West Oso ISD, (Texas)
- Have a minimum 3.5 GPA out of 4.0 (or equivalent)
- Plan to enroll at an accredited two or four year college or university for the entire upcoming academic year, with a declared STEM major in one of the following fields of study:
- Engineering
- Computer Science/IT/MIS
- Supply chain management
- Accounting Finance
- Process Technology
- Industrial Instrumentation
- Chemistry
- Environmental studies
- Occupational safety and health
- Be willing to consider a career in the energy industry
Note: Children or dependent of CITGO employees or retires are not eligible

How to Apply?
The eligible students who want to apply for the scholarship program must get themselves registered on the official portal of Scholarship America. Applicants must create an account if they are new, and those who already have an account can directly sign in. After signing in, students can access the scholarship program. Moreover, Applicants have to attach a complete transcript of their grades which must display student name, school name, grades, and credit hours for each course and its particular term. If providing SAT OR ACT scores, and those scores are not listed in high school transcript, upload an official copy separately for each and one online recommendation form on the student’s behalf before March 14, 2022, as the application will be considered incomplete without this. Benefits
The students who are applying for this scholarship program will get selected based on their academic excellence and achievements, determined leadership and participation in school and community activities, their work experience, Statement of educational and career goals and objectives, statement of financial need, and/or unusual personal or family circumstances (if applicable), and an online recommendation. The selection will be done by Scholarship America, and awards will be given to five applicants from each eligible school; 25 awards will be distributed. Each award is worth $2000, so all scholarships will be worth $50,000. Also, the awardees will be invited to attend an event and tour at the CITGO petroleum corporation office or facility. The awards provided are for on-time only and not renewable, and only for undergraduates. The award amount will be used for students’ educational-related expenses such as books, tuition assistance, accommodation, etc., and other requirements. This will help students at a better level to be more focused and aimed towards their career rather than being concerned about financial problems.Â
Application Deadline
The eligible students who want to apply for this scholarship program should send their entries no later than March 09, 2022. Delayed entries will not be accepted and will eventually lead to rejection. So interested candidates should get themselves registered as early as possible.
