This impressive scholarship will be provided to the students pursuing post-secondary education. They have demonstrated excellent performance in the Rosetta Stone Navajo Language Exam by Scoring 85 per cent or more.

The mission of the SFA is to make education accessible to all students from Navajo and provide an opportunity for each individual to receive a post-secondary education. They want to support the individual to receive the education by eliminating the worries of the educational expenses. They are concerned about the development of the community and providing a promising future for the student.

SFA is an organization that provides a bright future for students who are seeking post-secondary education. The Navajo Nation established the scholarship in 1980 to recognize high achieving high school graduates. The scholarship is awarded in honour of Chief Manuelito, HastiinCh’ilhaajiin, (1818-1893), who inspired the Navajo society to pursue education and preserve Navajo tradition and culture. Students meeting the criteria for the Chief Manuelito Scholarship are awarded $7,000 per academic year to cover up the direct educational expenses associated with attending a post-secondary.

Who May Be Eligible

Kindly go through the eligibility criteria below:

  • The fellow should be seeking the post-secondary institution with a minimum ACT composite score in combination with a minimum cumulative GPA score.
  • For getting eligible for the competition, the fellow requires to achieve the courses including Navajo Language and Navajo Government before the high school graduation date.
  • The candidates who do not have access to either Navajo Language or Navajo government classes have online options to fulfil the requirement. Fees apply to both and are the sole responsibility of the applicant. The SFA is not obligated to pay for courses.
  • The fellow must have scored the Rosetta Stone Navajo Language Exam: Score 85 per cent or better on the Navajo Language Renaissance.
  • The fellow should be a resident of Navajo.

The fellow should provide the complete application accompanied with all the required documents. The submission should be made before the deadline via the online process. Incomplete application or invalid information will lead to the rejection of the application.
