Charles E. Beveridge Research Fellowships

The Friend of Frosted is accepting applications for the fellowship program Charles E. Beveridge research fellowship. This fellowship is named in honor of the eminent Olmsted scholar and Series Editor of the Papers of Fredrick Law Olmsted, which is intended to connect students and professionals engaged in art or architectural history, landscape architecture, architecture, urban planning, historic preservation, engineering, American studies, or related disciplines with the Fredrick Law Olmsted National Historic Site. The fellowship program is available to students who are currently enrolled in graduate academic and professional programs and also to those who have completed their studies, emerging professionals, and public agencies.
The fellowship applicants who have the spirit of exploring the wide-ranging impact of his legacy, who move beyond the study of individual Olmsted landscapes, and will be awarded based on the originality of their proposed project, its applicability to this year’s theme, and the extent to which proposed research utilizes the ranges of resources in the Olmsted Archives. The selected fellows will receive a stipend of $3,000. This will help them to conclude their research project and manage their related expenses of resources and materials.
The Friends of Fairsted was founded in the year 1980 and is a non-profit partner of Fredrick Law Olmsted National Historic Site, devoted to enhancing public understanding of the Olmsted legacy. Their purpose is to promote the legacy of Fredrick Law Olmsted and the Olmsted Firm. They fund, sponsor, and develop programs and projects that enhance appreciation of over a century of professional practices, which began with Fredrick Law Olmsted and continued through the work of his sons and successors, all of whom helped shape the American Landscape.

How to Apply?

Those who find themselves eligible for this fellowship should complete the application form by providing details in each field such as name, address, email, etc. With the application, applicants must have a cover letter describing the proposed research project, including a title, goals, objectives, methodology, and final product. Also must include archival material anticipated for use, an explanation of how this project advances the applicant’s educational, personal, and/or professional goal, a CV or resume, and contact information for Recommender for a letter of recommendation from an advisor or principle. The letter of recommendation should be submitted separately by the Recommender directly to fellowship@friendsoffairsted.org. Please note that professionals may choose an allied professional, governmental or institutional official, or another relevant individual who can speak to the applicant’s interests and capabilities.
