The Black Heritage Trail of New Hampshire has decided to conduct a T-shirt Art Contest for the year 2022 for all those fascinated people who would like to participate in this Contest. The contestants have to make designs using their skills, creativity, and other required factors. The designs will include “Black Heritage Trail of New Hampshire” or “BHTNH,” as printed on the T-shirts. Participants have to use their creativity to design the T-shirt and make the best out of it, and it must be their artwork.
Participants entering this Contest with their artwork will be judged by BHTNH staff and approved by the BHTNH board based on their design’s concept and originality, representation of the BHTNH mission, and other factors. The participants who fit into the selection criteria will be selected as 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners. The first winner’s design will be featured on the official BHTNH 2022 t-shirt, be recognized on the BHTNH website and social media, and receive a $100 check a t-shirt with their design printed on it. A Portsmouth Black Heritage Trail Book, 2nd place and 3rd place winner will receive $50 $25 BHTNH gift shop card and recognition on website and social media, respectively. This will motivate participants to expand their creativity, bring out the best designs, and earn exciting prizes.
The BHTNH was founded on a mission to promote awareness and appreciation of African American history and culture in New Hampshire through education and public programs, including creating appropriate memorials at significant locations within the state to build more inclusive communities today. They are carrying a vision of celebrating people’s history of resilience, versatility, and courage.

How to Apply?
Participants who wish to participate in this Contest and showcase their artwork in the form of a Design printed on the T-shirt of BHTNH should get their designs ready concerning the judging criteria and remember the need for a perfect design that will feature the BHTNH mission. All participants should send their entries through email with the subject line “2022 Designer Contest + Designer Name (applicant have to write their name)” and should also add their name (separately), mailing address, and telephone number with it. All the details and designs should be submitted to the below email provided.

The participants must agree to release the rights to their design to BHTNH for the use of the 2022 BHTNH t-shirt and other promotional items, including, but not limited to, the BHTNH website, social media, and marketing materials that BHTNH reserves the right to make adjustments to the winning designs and to abide by all contest rules, agreements and guidelines.
Entrants must have a look at the below Design Rules and Guidelines:
- The design may not exceed 11” wide by 12” high.
- Design must include “Black Heritage Trail of New Hampshire” OR BHTNH.
- The design will appear on the front or back of a solid-color shirt.
- The design will be printed in one solid color. Gradients and transparencies cannot be incorporated.
- Design must be in BHTNH branded colors – black, white, and Pantone 7508 | Tawny Brown | RGB: 224|179|132 | Hex: E0B384 | CMYK: 2|24|50|3
- Design must be wholly original. By submitting a design, participants guarantee that they hold original rights to everything in it, that it may be printed on distributed t-shirts, and that it does not contain any copyrighted material.
- It’s recommended to render the participant’s design in Adobe Illustrator or a similar design program. Entries must include the original file, a vector-based EPS file, AND a high-resolution JPEG or PDF file.
- You are limited to (1) entry per person.
- Entries become the property of BHTNH.
Benefits
The participants appearing for the Contest will be judged by the BHTNH staff and approved by the BHTNH board for selection. Their designs will be judged based on their design’s concept and originality, a spirit of capturing the BHTNH mission, completeness of design and readiness for printing, the feasibility of reproduction, and adherence to design and submission rules and guidelines. Contestants who pass the judging criteria will be chosen as 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners. The selected winners will be eligible for awards, and in that sense, 1st place winners will receive a $100 check prize, one free BHTNH t-shirt with their design, and Portsmouth Black Heritage Trail Book. With this, they will be featured on the official BHTNH 2022 t-shirt and will also be recognized on the BHTNH website and social media.
In contrast, the 2nd & 3rd place winner will receive $50 & $25 BHTNH gift cards, respectively, and recognition on the BHTNH website and social media. The participants will get motivated by awards and be honored by the mentioned prizes, which will cheer them up to do their best.
Application Deadline
The participants who are excited about this Contest and want to show their creativity through it should submit their artwork before March 01, 2022. Delayed entries will get rejected and also will be ineligible for the prizes.
