The Dean and Margaret Lesher Foundation is providing scholarships for 5 desirable individuals who are full-time admitted and qualified and enrolled in the Multiple Subject or Single Subject Credential Program. The additional criteria include; being committed to teaching in low-income Contra Costa County schools for a minimum of two years after receiving their credential. The application should accompany the required financial aid forms (FAFSA), cover letter including the exceptional importance in and ability to teach in low-income Contra Costa County Schools, and a thank you note to the foundation.

4. TEACH Grants

The Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grant Program is a centralized financial assistance grant program offered to students enrolled in appropriate programs. The selected candidates have to be ready to render their teaching services in a high-need field such as Mathematics, science, foreign language, bilingual education, English language acquisition, special education, and reading specialist. They should also be ready to work at a low-income elementary or secondary school as a highly qualified teacher, full-time for no less than four years. The requirements of teaching should be met within eight years of completing the program for which the TEACH Grant was awarded.  The applicants need to have a convincing FAFSA on file with the University, and an official EFC should be an eligible non-citizen or a citizen of the United States. They should also be admitted and enrolled in a TEACH-qualified program and coursework at the university. The GPA maintained need to be 3.25 or more and should also meet the prescribed academic achievements. The amount available differs based on the qualification.

5. James Madison Graduate Fellowships

The students who strongly desire to become teachers with outstanding abilities at the secondary school level of the American Constitution are offered scholarships by the James Madison Memorial Fellowship Foundation. One fellowship is provided every year to an individual from a particular State. The applicants have to be U.S. citizens, a teacher or have plans to become one specializing in American history, American government, or civics classes. They have to be teaching topics on the Constitution at the secondary school level (grades 7–12). The applicants also have to have a bachelor’s degree or plan to receive a bachelor’s degree not later than August 31 of the year of applying. The amount received as a scholarship can be put to use to cover the cost of tuition, fees, books, room, board or to afford residence. The award money obtained is a maximum of $24,000, and the amount for an academic year will not be more than $12,000. The Fellows have to stick to the terms and conditions of the scholarship funding agency, as failure to complete the graduation might result in disqualifying and getting to pay the penalty. This can also occur if the teacher fails to teach the qualifying subjects in grades 7–12 for the requisite amount of time entailed by the award. The funds obtained will have to be paid back along with the relevant interest under federal law.

6. Knowles Teaching Fellowship

The candidates with exceptional knowledge about the specific subject area and outstanding teaching dedication and ability, and the correct attitude to carry out the vocation of teaching are considered for the Knowles Teacher Fellowship. The candidates need to understand that teaching is highly complicated and academically demanding and have put in a considerable amount of time and endeavor to be successful teachers. About 35 inspiring high school math and science teaching fellows are selected and awarded every year. 10. The Edward G. and Helen A. Borgens Elementary and Secondary Teacher Education Scholarships

The Teacher scholarship is provided as a one-time award to a twenty-five (25) years of age or older. Those who are applying should be teaching at the elementary school level and should maintain a GPA of 3.5 and be at least a college sophomore, and attend or plan on attending an accredited college or university.
