It has been recorded that the medical field has always been dominated by the presence of women. The AAMC has reported that there has been a steady growth of women medical professionals in the United States in the number accounting for 50% of students in medical schools. Female physicians have always concentrated their work towards family and child welfare medical practices. However, according to recent studies, it has been estimated that black female medical professionals constitute only 2% of the total U.S. population. There has been a sense of ethnic and race disparity when it comes to the minority communities getting health services from a black female physician.

In the field of cardiology alone, women of color belonging to the medical profession have an underrepresentation. To change this scenario, there are various medical schools and independent foundations that have set up medical scholarships exclusively for black female students. These below-listed scholarships have been funded by innovative companies, individual foundations, and pioneers of the black medical health society.
