Mormonism is an ancient practice of the church of Jesus. Nowadays, we would find a lot of Christians who separate themselves as Mormons. Mormonism describes the doctrines of the Church that were restored to the earth through the Prophet Joseph Smith. The scriptures of Mormonism are filled with great wisdom where people have started looking out for Mormon scriptures lately.
Just like how stoicism gained popularity recently, Mormonism also is admired by the GenZ. Mormon theology is more popular among the latter-day saints. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is a Christian church but is neither Catholic nor Protestant. Rather, it is a restoration of the Church of Jesus Christ as originally established by the Saviour in the New Testament of the Bible.
In this article, after in-depth research, I have listed down the top 10 books of Mormon scriptures. Mormon scriptures and Bible are two different holy books and that is something every person of faith should know before digging down the drain. So what are we waiting for? Let us heal ourselves through these masterpieces.
1. Teaching the Book of Mormon: 1 Nephi 18:16 by John S. Bushman
The 1 Nephi 18:16 mentions that Nevertheless, I did look unto my God, and I did praise him all the day long, and I did not murmur against the Lord because of mine afflictions. In this book, Nephi teaches us the strategy to complain to God on how to face challenges.
This book makes us realize that turning to God will make us understand how our problems are very small when it comes to God. The book shows how Nephi despite going through a lot of challenges Nephi did not choose to complain and did not express his unhappiness in hostile terms.
2. The Book of Alma by Marianne Reese
Yea, I know that I am nothing; as to my strength I am weak; therefore I will not boast of myself, but I will boast of my God, for in his strength I can do all things; yea, behold, many mighty miracles we have wrought in this land, for which we will praise his name forever. This was encompassed in Alma 26:12.
In this beautiful scripture, Nephi talks about how faith in God will not only boost our self-confidence but also will help us do great things. In this paragraph, Ammon who was accused of boasting himself was later clarified that he did not boast about himself but the god almighty. This passage is very powerful since it shows us how having faith in God will ultimately be helpful for your self-confidence.
3. The Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ by Joseph Smith
Through this scripture, it was said that yea, and from that time even until now, I have labored without ceasing, that I might bring souls unto repentance; that I might bring them to taste of the exceeding joy of which I did taste; that they might also be born of God, and be filled with the Holy Ghost. When we experience the love of God and feel the joy associated with it, we naturally want to share that joy with others. As Alma indicates in these verses, we ought to keep that desire alive and continually participate in missionary work.
Since we want to share our happy happenings with the people we love, it is also necessary to share the wisdom of Mormon scriptures in the missionary work in order to spread the love for god.
4. The Book of Mormon by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints
This scripture makes us understand how great issues in life are small and silly things when it is looked behind. God has the power to make all the sorrow and worries go away but all we need is patience in life to succeed. It is also interpreted that every small thing is a great thing when it is compared at the right time. The food which we eat may look small but it is big for a homeless man. So it is better to be grateful for what we have.
5. The Book of Mormon Study Guide: Start to Finish by Thomas R. Valletta
Yea, verily, verily I say unto you if all men had been, and were, and ever would be, like unto Moroni, behold, the very powers of hell would have been shaken forever; yea, the devil would never have power over the hearts of the children of men. In Alma 48:17, we find that Mormons see captain Moroni as a majestic hero.
Mormon was writing nearly four centuries after the events of the so-called “war chapters” in the second half of the book of Alma. It seemed that Mormon had many records from which to draw his history. The heroic acts of Moroni are discussed in the next chapters for which you will get a perspective on why captain Moroni is considered to be a celebrated hero. Moreover, it is also worth mentioning that Mormon apparently tried to imitate Moroni’s war strategies in his own time.
6. Moroni: A Brief Theological Introduction by David F Holland
Moroni 7:37 encompasses that Behold I say unto you, Nay; for it is by faith that miracles are wrought, and it is by faith that angels appear and minister unto men; wherefore, if these things have ceased to be unto the children of men, for it is because of unbelief, and all is vain.
In this scripture, it is beautifully explained how faith is very important in one’s life in order to get away from the devil i.e. the hell. Through faith, you will have the power to have the angels above your shoulders every time you do something. Doing a lot of sin will take away the angels and minister unto men. If a person has disbelief in god, everything they do in this world will go in vain.
7. Moroni’s Guide to Surviving Turbulent Times by John Bytheway
Moroni 10:32 explains the importance of going to Christ. Yea, come unto Christ, and be perfected in him, and deny yourselves of all ungodliness; and if ye shall deny yourselves of all ungodliness, and love God with all you might, mind and strength, then is his grace sufficient for you, that by his grace ye may be perfect in Christ; and if by the grace of God ye are perfect in Christ, ye can in nowise deny the power of God. Moroni explains how this is the last chance to remove all the ungodliness and be perfected to the god almighty. If the habit of alcohol, bad gaze, or any other sinful activities should be stopped since going to god cannot be considered as a last resort. It should be the first step.
The scriptures contain many invitations to come unto Christ. The scriptures make us owe god to fulfill the love through the church, charity, and sincere prayers. The word perfect became quite controversial since it is very difficult for a person of faith to be perfect. But the Perfect, as used in the scriptures, means “complete, whole, and fully developed; totally righteous.”
8. Study Daily The Book of Mormon by Zachary Jeffrey Cowan
In the Ether 12:4, it was mentioned in the scripture that Wherefore, whoso believeth in God might with surety hope for a better world, yea, even a place at the right hand of God, which hopes cometh of faith, maketh an anchor to the souls of men, which would make them sure and steadfast, always abounding in good works, being led to glorify God. From the bare reading of the scripture, it is clear that it is difficult to have a happy and sustainable life without faith.
To hope is to expect a positive outcome in the future. Every day, we have experiences that test our hope in both long-term and short-term outcomes. Think about the last time you lost hope and became frustrated. Always make sure never to lose hope because God has always had our back no matter what. If we truly believe that He has all power and that He will support us, then we can overcome the discouragement and fear associated with the challenges we face and continue moving forward with optimism.
9. The Book of Mormon by Joseph Smith
Mormon scriptures always never fail to stir our gratefulness for Jesus Christ. And if there were miracles wrought then, why has God ceased to be a God of miracles and yet be an unchangeable Being? And behold, I say unto you he changeth not; if so he would cease to be God; and he ceaseth not to be God, and is a God of miracles.
What is the meaning of “the Eternal God?” It means that He is enduring, constant, and immutable. It means not only that He will always be there but also that He will never change. We can have confidence that He is “the same yesterday, today, and forever”. Our god will never change according to the circumstances. That is why having faith in this consistent beautiful god is always good for a person with wisdom. When Jesus visited the Nephites, He revealed to them some of the teachings of the prophet Malachi, whose ministry began after Lehi and his family had left Jerusalem. That made the Nephi’s fall in faith with Jesus forever.
10. Helaman: A Brief Theological Introduction by Kimberly Matheson Berkey
In the Helaman 5th chapter, they show us how Nephi and Lehi devote themselves to preaching god. 2 For as their laws and their governments were established by the voice of the people, and they who chose evil were more numerous than they who chose good, therefore they were ripening for destruction, for the laws had become corrupted.
This chapter is a classic example of how devotion to god made them stick to the principles of life and the converts faced a lot of challenges in life which made them drown in the hell of fire. Faith is very important. These scriptures usually depict the importance of faith in Jesus Christ.
