Bernard L. McKay Award of Excellence for LGBT Scholars

An incoming undergraduate student who self-identifies as either lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgendered entering the Morehead State University has an excellent chance to fund their education. McKay Award of Excellence for the LGBT Scholars Program. Applicants should have demonstrated commitment to equality for the LGBT community by either membership in gay-straight alliances, participation in community projects, or similar actions, which indicate their dedication to improving equality for the LGBT community.

Who May Be Eligible?

Take a look at the requirements mentioned below to ensure about your eligibility:

  • The recipient must be a full-time incoming undergraduate student who self-identifies as either lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgendered (“LGBT”) and has demonstrated commitment to equality for the LGBT community by either membership in gay-straight alliances, participation in community projects, or similar actions which indicate their dedication to improving equality for the LGBT community.
  • Preference will be given to LGBT students from the following Kentucky counties: Mason, Bracken, Robertson, and Fleming. Secondary preference will be given to LGBT students from counties in Morehead State University’s traditional twenty-two county service region.
  • Third preference will be given to LGBT students from anywhere in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
  • Recipients shall maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 and overall satisfactory scholastic standing.
  • The applicant must be a freshman and must be enrolled full time.

To apply for the program, you first need to get admitted to the University. Candidates should submit the online application by signing up using their credentials. Benefits

The selected candidates will receive the award amount of $8000. This amount should be utilized to pay related educational expenses like tuition, fees, and other verified needs.
