Who is Eligible?
Students who meet the required prerequisites are eligible for this program:
- The grant is accessible to master‘s level students presently enrolled in a health education program at an accredited college/university in the United States or a US territory.
- The candidate must have a current overall GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
- Previous winners of AAHPERD scholarships are ineligible.
How to Apply?

Supporting Documents
- Attach a recent curriculum vitae.
- Attach a three-part narrative essay outlining your philosophy of health education, professional objectives, and evaluation of present and future health education challenges.
- This narrative can be no longer than three double-spaced pages in 12-point type. Subtitles should be included for each of the three regions (Philosophy, Professional Goals, Issues).
- Submit two letters of recommendation from professionals in the academic major, addressing academic standing, leadership potential, and career commitment. Letters of recommendation should come from the applicant’s mentor and a professor in the applicant’s field of study.
- Attach a recent official transcript PDF from the university that granted the most recent degree, as well as any coursework that satisfies the criteria for the current degree program.
Benefits
The prize is a $1,000 grant given to a master’s level student yearly. Recipients may spend the prize in any way they see fit. Recipients will also get a one-year free student membership in SHAPE America.
