Arts & Science Postdoctoral Fellowship Program

The University of Toronto is pleased to announce Arts & Science Postdoctoral Fellowship Program to provide outstanding recent doctoral students advanced training in their field of study. The fellowship is open for Canadian citizens and Canadian permanent residents must have completed their Ph.D. requirements no later than six months after their start-date of an Arts & Science Postdoctoral Fellowship.

These fellowships are not disciplined specific, but rather can be held in any department or research unit across the Faculty of Arts & Science at the University of Toronto. These fellowships pay a stipend of $45,000 per year for a maximum of two years.

Who May Eligible:

To eligible, the candidates must be following all the eligibility criteria:

  • As these fellowships are designed for relatively recent graduates, applicants must have completed all requirements for their doctorate degree no earlier than May 1, 2017.
  • Applicants may be citizens of any country and from any university. Successful international candidates must meet all Canadian immigration requirements.
  • Applicants cannot currently hold a tenure-track or continuing faculty position at a college or university.
  • Canadian citizens and Canadian permanent residents must have completed their Ph.D. requirements no later than six months after their start-date of an Arts & Science Postdoctoral Fellowship.
  • International applicants must have completed their Ph.D. requirements before the start date of an Arts & Science Postdoctoral Fellowship.
  • Arts & Science Postdoctoral Fellows may not concurrently hold another post-doctoral fellowship.
  • Canadian citizens and Canadian permanent resident applicants, however, are strongly encouraged to apply for the appropriate CIHR, NSERC, or SSHRC postdoctoral fellowships in addition to their Arts & Science Postdoctoral Fellowship.

How to Apply & Competitions Rules:

To participate in the fellowship applicants must download an application form and Submit with supporting documents to the Office of the Vice-Dean Research & Infrastructure at research.artsci@utoronto.ca.

Rules:

  • Submit your CV and a completed Arts & Science Postdoctoral Fellowship application form (www.artsci.utoronto.ca/graduate/postdoctoral-fellowships) to the office of the Vice-Dean Research & Infrastructure (research.artsci@utoronto.ca).
  • The form includes a one-page research proposal where you should describe your proposed research project, highlighting the importance and impact of the research and how this research fits into your academic goals.
  • Reference lists or bibliographies are not necessary for the proposal.
  • Arrange for your proposed supervisor(s) to send the Arts & Science Postdoctoral Supervisor form to the office of the Vice-Dean Research & Infrastructure (research.artsci@utoronto.ca). NB: Only applications that have a corresponding Supervisor form will be considered.
  • Supervisors
    • Submit a completed Arts & Science Postdoctoral Supervisor form (www.artsci.utoronto.ca/graduate/postdoctoral-fellowships) to the Vice-Dean Research & Infrastructure (artsci@utoronto.ca).
    • This form must be signed by the Chair or Director of the supervisor’s unit before being submitted. Co-supervision requires signatures of the Chairs and/or Directors from the units of all supervisors.
    • In the space provided please comment on the applicant’s research potential, the quality of the proposed research, the research environment and resources that will be available to the applicant, and how the fellowship will advance the applicant’s career development.
  • Completion does not mean convocation, but rather the completion of all the requirements necessary for the Ph.D.

Benefits:

These fellowships pay a stipend of $45,000 per year for a maximum of two years.

The application deadline for the 2018-2019 competition years is Wednesday, December 5, 2018, at 11:59 pm EST.
