Introduction and Background
Welcome, aspiring healthcare leaders! If you’re a graduate student with dreams of making a difference in the healthcare industry, the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) has exciting news for you. The Albert W. Dent and Foster G. McGaw Graduate Student Scholarships have been established to support racially and/or ethnically diverse, as well as LGBTQ students, pursuing careers in healthcare management.
The Albert W. Dent scholarship honors the legacy of the first African-American Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, while the Foster G. McGaw scholarship pays tribute to the founder of the American Hospital Supply Corporation. These scholarships, each valued at $5,000, aim to empower the next generation of healthcare leaders.

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for these prestigious scholarships, you must meet the following requirements:
- Enrolled in the final year (fall/spring) of full-time study in a healthcare management graduate program.
- Graduation date between Sept. 1, 2024, and Aug. 31, 2025.
- Demonstrate financial need.
- Be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or a Canadian citizen.
- Not a previous recipient of either scholarship.
- If eligible for both, you may apply for both scholarships.
Application Process

- Visit ache.org/Scholarships starting Jan. 2, 2024.
- Choose either “Albert W. Dent” or “Foster G. McGaw” to complete the scholarship application.
- Ensure your application is complete, including:
- Current resume or curriculum vitae
- Official undergraduate and graduate transcripts
- Three current letters of recommendation (one from your graduate program director)
- Application essay
