The Alabama Funeral Directions Association is concentrated on advancing funeral service education. Two AFDA $1,000.00 grants ($500.00 per semester) will be granted to qualified understudies whose plans are to finish their schooling in a licensed morgue science school and service the general population in their selected profession in the State of Alabama. All grant candidates should be supported by a functioning individual from the AFDA. All grants will be granted at the carefulness of the Scholarship Committee of the AFDA. Who is Eligible?
The eligibility criteria for the following scholarship is as follows:
- The applicant must have been accepted by an accredited mortuary science school.
- The student must maintain an overall grade point average of not less than 2.5.
- The applicant must be a legal resident of the State of Alabama.
- Applicant must be sponsored by a member of the AFDA.
- Applicant must not have been the recipient of the AFDA Scholarship Award at any time previous to this application.
How to Apply?
All eligible candidates can apply for this scholarship by completing the application form given on the scholarship and submitting all the concerned materials asked. In addition to that, the applicants must submit a five hundred-word essay on “A Career in Funeral Service.” Tell of the process you used in choosing the funeral service profession and why. The essay must be typewritten and double-spaced. Essays containing excessive spelling, punctuation, and grammatical errors may be subjected to elimination from consideration.
The completed application must be mailed to the address mentioned on the application portal.
Supporting Documents
Following are the documents that need to be attached with your application form:
- Submit two proofs of residency, such as voter registration, driver’s license, tax returns, etc.
- The applicant must include a recent photograph with the application.
- If the applicant is employed by a member of the AFDA, the employer must submit a letter, on company letterhead, to the Scholarship Committee stating why the applicant is being recommended for the scholarship award and their overall opinion of the applicant’s future in funeral service.
- Applicants must also obtain two other letters of recommendation from someone in their community other than family.
- If the applicant is not employed by a funeral director, three letters of recommendation must be submitted, one of which must be from an AFDA member funeral firm.
- All letters of recommendation must e attached to the application.

After reviewing all the submissions, the candidate with the best response to the given prompt will be selected as the winner of the scholarship and be granted the scholarship money of $500.
