This Scholarship is available to continuing full-time students who are pursuing their graduate degree in an accredited agriculture-related field (Research, animal science, ag business, ag education, etc.) Students should show a strong interest in working in South Dakota upon completion of their degree.
The motive of this scholarship is to support the deserving students with their educational expenses and make education accessible for everyone. The primary purpose of this program is the development of South Dakota with the help of knowledgeable professionals in the fields of agriculture. This scholarship is designed to motivate students who are keen on the development of the agriculture profession and the growth of the agriculture field through their studies and relevant practices. It encourages students to maintain an excellent academic record.
The South Dakota Farmers Union Foundation was founded in 1999 and is a 501 (c)(3) corporation. The Foundation is focused on providing education and information that advances South Dakota’s economy. South Dakota Farmers Union Foundation’s focus includes expanding youth education programs that teach the importance of cooperatives and member-owned operations, developing leadership abilities, and cultivating business skills, cultural awareness, and the entrepreneurial spirit. As a 501(c)(3) corporation, it is qualified to receive government and foundation grants on behalf of its cooperative education efforts.

Who May Be Eligible?
Take a look at eligibility requirements before applying for the program:
- Full-time students who are pursuing their graduate degree in an accredited agriculture-related field (Research, animal science, ag business, ag education, etc.) and who show a strong interest in working in South Dakota upon completion of their degree.
- Preference is given to students from South Dakota who have/had an affiliation with Farmers Union.
- Eligible graduate students include on-campus and distance education students who are pursuing any master’s or doctoral program, agriculture teacher certification program (CERT/FCSC), or graduate certificate program (GCERT).
How to Apply
Eligible and interested students should apply for the program through an online application form. Late or applications with insufficient data will not be encouraged. Fellows should provide all the needed details and materials with concern. The Foundation will reject incomplete materials. Please maintain the authenticity of the documents you are submitting. Late applications will not be considered for the program.
Supporting Documents
- A resume or personal statement/essay outlining your activities in college; including the field of study and plans should be submitted.
- Two letters of recommendation from faculty members of the university you currently attend are needed.
- A transcript of your grades and information on any other scholarship or grant aid you are now receiving should be submitted.
Benefits
One student will be selected and awarded a scholarship of $2500. This amount should be utilized to pay the educational expenses of the candidate like tuition, fees, room, and other related needs. This scholarship motivates students to do better in their academics and benefit society with their education. This program supports the students to improve the standard of living my completing their higher education.
Application Deadline
The last date to apply for the scholarship is December 1, 2020. Late or incomplete applications will not be reviewed for the scholarship.
