The AERA Research Grant Programs

The American Educational Research Association is ecstatic to announce the continuation of the AERA Grant Program for the current year 2020. The award is open for U.S. citizens, or permanent residents, who are faculty at institutions of higher education, postdoctoral researchers, and other doctoral-level scholars.

The goal of the program is to stimulate research on U.S. education issues using the data from the large scale, national and international data sets which supported by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), NSF, or other federal agencies. The awards will also help scholars to achieve their goals without any financial worries.

The American Educational Research Association (AERA) was established in 1916. The AERA is a national research society to advance education knowledge, to support scholarly inquiry related to educations, and to promote the use of research to improve teaching and serve the public good.

Who May Be Eligible?

These are the guidelines on eligibility for the AERA Grants Program:

  • Research Grants are available for faculty at institutions of higher education, postdoctoral researchers, and other doctoral-level scholars.
  • Proposals are encouraged from the full range of education research fields and other fields and disciplines engaged in education-related research, including economics, political science, psychology, sociology, demography, statistics, public policy, and psychometrics.
  • Applicants for this one-year or two-year, non-renewable award must have received their doctoral degree at the start of the award.
  • Applicants may be U.S. citizens or U.S. permanent residents. Non-­U.S. citizens affiliated with a U.S. university or institution are also eligible to apply.
  • Underrepresented racial and ethnic minority researchers as well as women, individuals with disabilities, and veterans are strongly encouraged to apply.

How to Apply

Applications are to be submitted electronically through an online application form to get consideration. Participants are asked to provide their credentials through email to the AERA Grants Program Manager at grantsprogram@aera.net.

Supporting Documents

  • Principal Investigator (PI) information: P.I. Enters a name, contact information, and background information.
  • Co-Principal Investigator(s) (Co-PI) information
  • Research abstract: Enter the summary of your proposed research project (250 words maximum).
  • Contribution to the field: Briefly describe the potential contributions this research will make to the area of education (200 words maximum).
  • Proposal: Enter the proposal title, the amount of funding requested, start, and end dates of the project, the data set(s) used. Proposals must include the analysis of at least one nationally or internationally representative data set supported by NCES, NSF, or other U.S. federal agencies. The plan must consist of the following seven components in one PDF document.
    • The proposal narrative
    • The conceptual model(s)
    • The statistical model(s)
    • Variables list
    • Reference list
    • Budget
    • Current other support
  • The curriculum vitae (CV) for P.I.s and Co­P.I.s. Each CV should be no longer than two pages.
  • Institutional endorsement (optional). If your institution requires that an institutional cover page or endorsement accompany this proposal, that document may be uploaded separately in PDF.

 Benefits

An award for Research Grant will be up to $25,000 for the 1­-year project or up to $35,000 for a 2-­year project. Under AERA’s agreement with the funding agencies, institutions may not charge indirect costs or overheads on these awards. The recipients will get support for their various purposes cost.
