Acorn Equality Fund Scholarships and Grants

Acorn Equality Fund is taking a tremendous initiative of supporting gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender students, allies, or the children of gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender parents. The program is including students with retaining a permanent residence in the Acorn Equality Fund service area of downstate Illinois.

The organization established the award keeping in the mind the challenges faced by the LGBTQ community in their lives and careers. The grant program will let them a chance to overcome their financial hurdles and accomplish their education and dreams easily.

​Acorn Equality Fund is a not-for-profit 501(c) (3) organization established in 1999. It works to provide scholarships and organization grants to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender persons, organizations, and allies to impact lives in a positive fashion. They raise funds in order to give out grants and scholarships to promote higher education.

Who May Be Eligible?

To eligible for the program, the candidates must be reviewing all the eligibility criteria:

  • Applicants must retain permanent residence in the Acorn Equality Fund service area of downstate Illinois (all Illinois counties except Cook, DuPage, Grundy, Kane, Kendall, Lake, McHenry, and Will)
  • Applicants must also attend any accredited, post-secondary educational institution to be eligible

How to Apply

Eligible candidates who are willing to apply can download a pdf form or word format form and complete it along with the mandatory credentials. The application is to be postmarked to the office address at P.O. Box 6286 Peoria, IL 61601 to get consideration for the award.

Supporting Documents

  • You need to complete two essays,
  • Your first essay should address either the criteria of the specific scholarships you are applying for.
  • The second essay, “About Me” is designed to give the Acorn Equality Fund Scholarship Committee a chance to get to know you better. It is your opportunity to express yourself.
  • If you are a past scholarship winner and are applying again, please be sure your essays are new.
  • If you submit the same essay as in previous years, your application will not be considered.

Benefits

The 2021 scholarships range from $1,000 to $4,000, with up to $35,000 being awarded and grants up to $4,000 to organizations that work with or support LGBT events. The recipients of the program will get to accomplish their higher or quality education and also its related expenses such as tuition, fees, books, room, etc.

The application deadline to postmark your essay is Friday, September 18, 2020.
