The 2019 CM CARES Religious Scholars Program

Church Mutual Insurance Company is offering the Religious Scholars Program. The program is open to assist students pursuing an advanced degree in religious studies at an accredited or conditionally accredited theological seminary, college or university of higher learning.

Each of the fifty scholarship winners will receive a prize of $ 5,000. The Foundation will award prizes up to $ 250,000 in eligible scholarships for graduate-level religious scholars.

Who May Eligible:

Applicants for the Church Mutual Religious Scholars Program must:

  • Be enrolled or be planning to enroll in a full-time or part-time, graduate or doctorate religious studies program at an accredited or conditionally accredited United States theological seminary, college or university of higher learning, for the entire 2019-20 academic year.
    • A student must be enrolled in a minimum of six (6) credits to meet part-time requirements.
    • Institutions in the process of achieving accreditation.
  • Demonstrate personal impact throughout education, work experiences, and volunteerism.
  • Have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale or its equivalent.
  • Be committed to entering the practice of full-time ministry in the United States following completion of studies, including leading a denominational congregation, or worship group, or serving in religious leadership at a house of worship.

Rules

As part of your application, you must upload the following documents:

  • A complete and current transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Unofficial or online transcripts must display student name, school name, grades, and credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.
  • A letter of recommendation from a current theological instructor or clergy member.
  • An essay (500 words or less) “What role can religious leaders play in helping to restore a sense of peace and civility in today’s society?”

Your application is not complete unless all required documents are submitted electronically.

Benefits:

If selected as a recipient, the student will receive

  • A $5,000 award
  • Up to fifty (50) awards will be granted.
  • Awards are one-time only and not renewable.
  • Scholarship recipients are not eligible to reapply in future years.
  • Awards are for students in graduate or doctorate religious study programs in accredited or conditionally accredited universities, colleges, and seminaries.
