West Virginia University (WVU) is currently paying the Promise Scholarship for High School Graduates. The scholarship is funded for West Virginia resident students by the State of West Virginia. Applicants, who come first, will receive up to $4,750 a year for up to four undergraduate years or a bachelor’s degree completion.
The program is committed to helping you reach your educational goals without burdening you with excessive student loan debt. You may receive your institutional scholarship in addition to promise (a few exceptions may exist). First-time first-year students are required to complete the Promise application and submit the Free Application for (FAFSA) Federal Student Aid through the myStudentAid app or at fafsa.ed.gov.

Who May Be Eligible
To be eligible for the Promise Scholarship, Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- A high school applicant must be eligible for the award at the time of application and at the time the award.
- Students must complete high school graduation requirements at a West Virginia public, private.
- Must complete at least one-half of the credits required for high school graduation through attendance at a public, private or home school in this state
- Participants must apply for the scholarship within two years of graduation from high school unless the candidate entered the United States armed services according to Section 4 of this rule.
- Must have attained a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, based on
- applicant must have completed in both the 11th and 12th grades the required core and elective coursework necessary to prepare students for success in postsecondary education at the associate and baccalaureate.
- Participants must attain a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 grading scale in both cores.

To be considered for the PROMISE Scholarship program, Applicants need to submit all the required documents with FAFSA through the given link. Students who already enrolled can log in to their accounts, or new candidates can sign up for their accounts.

Students will require to submit the following:
- Students must complete high school graduation requirements at a West Virginia public or private high school.
- All students must submit a completed 2021-22 FAFSA by the March 1, 2021 deadline to be eligible.
Benefits
Eligible high school graduates can receive up to $4,750 in annual scholarships to cover tuition expenses and required fees at public or private West Virginia institutions. Awards are based on the West Virginia State Legislature’s annual sponsorship of the program.
